OSMC’s October update is here with Kodi 17.5

OSMC’s October update is ready with a wide range of improvements and fixes to keep your OSMC device running in tip-top shape. Kodi 17.5 has been released with a variety of fixes, and OSMC now ships with this version.

We are continuing to work on migrating OSMC to the latest version of Debian Stretch, which will provide:

  • Better performance
  • A larger number of software packages to choose from
  • More up to date software packages to choose from

Here’s what’s new in this month’s update:

Bug fixes

  • Fix an issue that could prevent hard drives from automounting on new installations of OSMC
  • Fix an issue which caused high CPU usage and temperatures
  • Fix an issue with some USB peripherals on Raspberry Pi, caused by a timer overflow interrupt
  • Improved DVB
  • Fix security vulnerability when using WPA2 (KRACK)
  • Fix an issue with EPG timeline rendering on Vero 4K caused by a dirty region rendering bug
  • Fix an issue which prevented SSH from being disabled properly in the initial walkthrough
  • Fix accelerometers preventing screensaver activation when using a joystick
  • Fix DVD playback over the network
  • Fix power message handling for CEC
  • Fix jumping timeline while switching channel groups in Guide window
  • Fix an issue where Vero 4K would randomly hang after a combination of high Ethernet traffic and high uptime

Improving the user experience

  • Improved playback for Live TV on Vero 4K
  • Ensure languages can be selected and loaded without an Internet connection
  • Improved firmware support for DVB devices
  • Added support for OSMC DVB-T2 dongle
  • Improved GUI performance and fluidiness on Vero 4K
  • Improved SMB performance when using Kodi based mounts
  • Updated SQLite library for improved standalone library performance
  • Prevent users from accidentally damaging their system by running apt upgrade command

Miscellaneous

  • Stretch: disable support for predictable network interface names by default
  • Improve how the OSMC APT key is added during the filesystem build process
  • Add logging of APT sources list to My OSMC
  • Ensure we unmount any swap used during a build
  • Fixed Stretch filesystem build process for Raspberry Pi 0/1
  • Updated to FFMPEG 3.1.11

Wrap up

To get the latest and greatest version of OSMC, simply head to My OSMC -> Updater and check for updates manually on your exising OSMC set up. Of course — if you have updates scheduled automatically you should receive an update notification shortly.
