OSMC’s September update is here

OSMC’s September update is ready with a wide range of improvements and fixes to keep your OSMC device running in tip-top shape.

We are continuing to work on migrating OSMC to the latest version of Debian Stretch, which will provide:

  • Better performance
  • A larger number of software packages to choose from
  • More up to date software packages to choose from

We expect to complete this migration in October.

Here’s what’s new in this month’s update:

Bug fixes

  • Fix an issue where Samba user shares would not work when the hostname is an FQDN
  • Fix for Broadpwn security vulnerability
  • Fix an issue which prevented content from being manually added to Kodi’s library
  • Fix for a hang on reboot on Vero 4K if ALSA utilities have been installed by a user
  • Fix an issue where rebooting would hang if a user had mounted shares via /etc/fstab and was connected via WiFi.
  • Fix CI support in TVHeadend
  • Fix issues with connecting to SMBv1 shares which were introduced in OSMC’s August update with Kodi 17.4
  • Fix an issue where thumbnails generated on Vero 4K looked malformed
  • Fix a CEC crash when the remote button release is received without a button press on Raspberry Pi
  • Fix a flickering issue when playing some HDR content on Vero 4K
  • Fix an issue where multi-channel audio would not be output correctly on Vero 4K

Improving the user experience

  • Improve first time installation for TVHeadend
  • Add support for reinstalling OSMC on Vero 4K via USB flash drive
  • Improved NFS share performance on Vero 4K
  • Improved Live TV playback performance on Vero 4K
  • Added support for hardware accelerated 3D scaling on Vero 4K
  • Ensure that updates never prompt for installation options when initiated via My OSMC
  • Improvements to PVR support in the Estouchy skin
  • Improvements to MPEG2 hardware accelerated playback on Vero 4K

Miscellaneous

  • Add UDisks packages for Debian Stretch migration
  • Add support for automatic updating to Debian Stretch

Wrap up

To get the latest and greatest version of OSMC, simply head to My OSMC -> Updater and check for updates manually on your exising OSMC set up. Of course — if you have updates scheduled automatically you should receive an update notification shortly.
